Founded in 1868, the University of California at Berkeley is the oldest public university in the state. With a total enrollment of over 35,000 undergraduate and graduate students at its campus 10 miles from San Francisco, the university is also one of the largest in the state. In 2010, U.S. News and World Report rated Berkeley 21st among all colleges and universities in the United States. The university's College of Natural Resources grants a bachelor's in forestry and natural resources with an emphasis in environmental law. In addition to classroom based studies, students in the program attend an eight-week Forestry Field Camp in the Sierra Nevadas each summer to learn first-hand about the habitats game wardens work to protect.

A public institution, Northwestern Oklahoma State University is 73 miles northwest of Enid, Oklahoma. Its rural setting is home to less than 2,100 total undergraduate and graduate students, and around 80 percent of its undergraduates are Oklahoma residents, according to the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The university grants a bachelor's degree in conservation law. Required topics of study include sociology, business leadership, philosophy and ethics, investigating and evidence collecting. With only 500 students, Unity College is a small school located in rural Unity, Maine. More than two-thirds of students come from out of state, reports the 2009 Barron's Profiles of American Colleges. The rural college is approximately 40 miles southeast of Bangor. The entire focus of Unity College is studies that relate to the environment with a conservation law enforcement degree among the bachelor's degrees the school confers. The required courses of study are largely hands-on and take students into the wooded areas surrounding the school to conduct mock investigations. Students are also required to attend courtroom proceedings held throughout Maine on conservation legal issues.

The university grants a bachelor's degree in conservation law enforcement that requires completion of courses in social and natural sciences.
