How to Cite Annual Reports in MLA

Writing essays and reports at an academic level is matter of conforming to a specific style. Many subjects use the Modern Language Association's style, while others opt for the American Psychological Association or Chicago styles.

Like APA, but unlike Chicago, MLA uses in-text, parenthetical citations to direct the reader to a fact's source. This makes it easy to find a source if need be but makes it equally easy to just skim over the citation and read the paper itself.

Instructions

    • 1

Type the name of the company. This is instead of an author; since it is endorsed by the company, the company is essentially the author. This makes it more convenient and accurate, as an annual report can have dozens or hundreds of different authors.

    • 2

Type the annual report's title in italics. This will usually be the year followed by "Annual Report," but check to make sure.

    • 3

Type where the company is based, a colon, then the name of the company, a comma, then the year. All this information is in the report title and author, but it is important to clarify by putting it in the location, publisher and year spaces, too.

    • 4

Type the format the report is in. Most are in print, but many are also online.
