How to Cite an Online Pamphlet in MLA

Citing sources in an important part of any paper or document. MLA format is one of the available formatting styles of writing. When the source is an online pamphlet, citing the source is sometimes confusing. The confusion comes from whether to cite the source as an online reference or a pamphlet reference. The appropriate citation for online pamphlets is using the online source citations.

Instructions

    • 1

Write in an author or editor if the website gives author or editor names. Online pamphlets might or might not provide an author name. Type a period after the author's name.

    • 2

Write in the title of the pamphlet. This follows the website name or publication name, depending on the source. For example, a pamphlet on digestive health might have a title like "Maintaining a Healthy Digestive System." Put the title in quotation marks and type a period after the title.

    • 3

Type in the title of the magazine, journal name or similar name the pamphlet is published in if available. Italicize the title and type a period at the end. If the pamphlet is not in an online magazine, journal or similar online source, this is not necessary.

    • 4

Type in the website name. Type in the name of the website where the pamphlet was found and type a comma after the name. If using an abbreviation such as "mag" for magazine, type a period after the abbreviation followed by a comma.

    • 5

Put the date the pamphlet was published. Type the date with the day first, the month abbreviated to three letters (unless it is a three- or four-letter month) and the year. Put a period after the abbreviation if the month is a long month such as "Jan." and type another period after the year.

    • 6

Copy and paste the website address and type a period.

    • 7

Type in the date the pamphlet was accessed. Use the same day, month and year format. Type a period at the end.
