How to Search for Universities by State

There are a plethora of factors to consider when searching for a university for yourself or your child. Searching for colleges by state is convenient if looking for in-state universities in order to save money or if there is a particular state that appeals to you or your child. The websites found below list community, small and large universities by state. They also allow you to find stats about and the official websites for the listed universities.

  1. U.S. College Search

      Go to the U.S. College Search website.

      Click on the state of your choice. A new Web page opens.

      Scroll to the bottom of the Web page until you see the "(State name) Additional Schools" heading. A list of schools in that state is found underneath the heading. Click on the school of your choice or click one of the number tabs found beneath the list of universities to find more colleges in that particular state.

    The University of Texas at Austin

      Visit the "U.S. Universities by state" on the The University of Texas at Austin website.

      Click on the state abbreviation of your choosing found in the top-right corner of the page. The name of the state, as well as universities in that state, appear on the page.

      Scroll down the page and click on the name of a university. The website for that school opens.

    College Board

      Go to the "Colleges State-by-State" link on the College Board website.

      Click on the name of the state of your choosing found in the center of the page. A new page containing a list of universities opens.

      Click the "See Profile" link found underneath the name of the university of your choice. A new page that contains information about that school, such as student body, graduate enrollment and exact location, opens in the browser.
