Determine the field of study that you intend to pursue. This can play a role in determining where you go to school, but it can also affect how you search for degree programs. In some cases you can search for schools by degree program, so knowing this in advance can speed up the search process.
Consult the Pennsylvania Department of Education website. It features a database of higher education institutions throughout the state of Pennsylvania. Click the "Find An Institution" link on the left side of the page. This will take you to another page where you will see various options. Clicking on the "Advanced Search" link will take you to yet another page where you can search for colleges and universities as well as other institutions of higher education. Clicking on the "All Higher Ed." box will complete a search of all institutions, including technical schools and trade programs. Select only those types of institutions you are interested in attending, and click the "Search" button at the bottom of the screen.
Search for online colleges and universities through various online websites and databases like Get Educated. Get Educated provides reviews and information regarding all types of online degree programs. You can search for schools by degree subject, degree level or the name of the school if you happen to know it. Large schools like Penn State University have their online programs listed on Get Educated as well, which gives you the opportunity to see what other students and reviewers think about the school's programs.
Visit the websites provided by the University of Texas at Austin. The university maintains two helpful website pages. Each page allows you to locate schools by state. The first page lists all 4-year colleges and universities in each state, including Pennsylvania. The second page lists all of the community colleges in each state also. Click on the link for each school of interest to you, and a new page will open that takes you to the school's homepage.
