Change the author's name from last name, initials to last name, first name. If there are multiple authors, put the first name first for the second and following authors. Use "and" instead of "&" in MLA format. For example, "Smith, A. J. & Jones, D." becomes "Smith, Andrew J. and Darcy Jones." Keep the initials if you do not know the author's full first name.
Move the date from after the author's name to near the end of the citation. Place the date after the publisher's name for a book, after the publication name for a newspaper or magazine article, or after the issue number for a journal article. Place the access date at the very end of a Web citation.
Place the title of a journal, newspaper, magazine or Web article in quotation marks. Change article and book titles to title case. For example, This is an example article becomes "This Is an Example Article."
Reformat the volume and page number and add the year of publication for journal articles. For example, "Journal of Microbiology, 10(5), 50-55." becomes "Journal of Microbiology 10.5 (2007): 50-55."
Add the date after the title of a newspaper or magazine; for example, "New York Times, 5-6." becomes "New York Times 20 April 2007: 5-6."
Omit the state name from the publisher's location in a book citation. Add the date of publication after the publisher's name for a book or Web citation. For example, "New York, NY: Random House." becomes "New York: Random House, 2007." Use "n.d." for web resources with no publication date: for example, "eHow, n.d."
Give the medium of publication for the reference: for example, "Print." or "Web." For Web references, delete the "Retrieved from URL" in the APA citation and add the date you accessed the Web page. For example, "Web. 20 April 2007."
