Enroll in the pre-med program at a prestigious university. Look for a school that offers some undergraduate courses in radiology, but realize you'll only be able to take them during your final year. Take as many lab classes as possible to get experience working with different kinds of instruments and materials.
Look for outreach opportunities to help you gain experience in the field. Apply for an administrative job at the health services facility in your school. You need more than an excellent GPA to get accepted into radiology school, so look for leadership positions, such as being a resident assistant in a dorm.
Speak with your adviser during your junior year and begin investigating radiology schools. Find out what qualifying exams you'll have to take and consider registering for preparation courses. If possible, take each test twice to see whether you can improve your score the second time.
Attend a graduate radiology program and focus your interests during the second year. If you want to conduct your own research, start during your second or third year, once you've passed your general studies courses and practice oral examinations. Prepare yourself to take the exams needed for a radiology license in your state or for admission to another program.
Get your medical degree from another school if it is required for admissions to radiology school. Some schools offer a master's degree in radiology, but others require that you already have a degree from an accredited medical program and have some clinical experience.
