USA Trucking Schools

It takes more to be a truck driver than the inclination to drive and travel. Truckers have to pass company, state and federal requirements, which include getting a commercial driver's license, passing a physical and background check and possibly obtaining certification to handle hazardous material, and for this they need training. The rewards are plentiful, however. Even in a sluggish U.S. economy, truckers continue to be in demand. According to the Department of Labor, trucking jobs are expected to grow in the decade from 2008 to 2018.
  1. International Schools

    • International Schools has locations in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Arkansas. The schools offer a 200-hour course that covers safety, safe driving techniques, equipment inspections and what you need to know in order to obtain a state commercial driver's license. International specializes in training prospective over-the-road (OTR) long-haul truck drivers, so desire to become an OTR driver is part of the admission requirements.

Students also must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver's license, complete an interview with an admissions officer and pass a drug screen and Department of Transportation (DOT) physical. The school offers placement assistance, and many students are pre-hired for trucking jobs even before graduating, according to International Schools' website.
