Central Community College offers CDL training at its three campuses in Hastings, Columbus and Grand Island. The course requires 12 credits to complete with students receiving a Professional Truck Driver Training Certificate. The program includes all necessary tests to receive a commercial driver's license. Students 18 years or older can earn a CDL for the State of Nebraska, while interstate CDLs are available only to students over the age of 21. Potential students must also have a CDL learner's permit, pass a Department of Transportation physical and drug screen and have a clean driving record.

Norfolk's Northeast Community College offers Nebraskans the opportunity to earn their Class "A" commercial driver's license. The non-credit program includes 240 hours of instruction over six weeks. The program is broken into two segments. First, students spend 190 hours learning the basics of commercial truck driving in classroom and lab settings. Subjects covered during the first part of the course include logs, trip planning, hazardous materials handling, regulatory bodies, firefighting, urban and highway driving, hazardous materials and coupling and uncoupling. The remaining 50 hours allows the students to operate their rig under the watchful eye of a licensed supervisor. Students learn eight-, nine- and ten-speed transmissions.
The course has a limit of eight students. Applicants must be 21 years or older and hold a valid driver's license. Students must also submit to drug testing before entering the program, as well as post-accident, reasonable suspicion and random testing.
