Everest University offers their electrician training program at several of their campuses, across the United States, including California and Florida. This program provides students with the scientific, technical and communication skills needed to become an electrician and an electrical inspector, in both residential and industrial settings. From installation to alteration to maintenance and repair, graduates of this diploma program have the knowledge to work with and inspect a variety of electrical systems. Everest's program is a three quarters program. Topics studied, include electrical concepts and theory; federal electrical code, concepts of advanced code, blueprints and computer-based controls.

The Penn Foster Career School electrician program is an at-home, certification program. Students receive hands-on training in: the categories and classifications of electricity; conduit supports and fittings; industrial, commercial and residential installation; lighting and heating practices; and the characteristics and properties of conductors, all while studying from home. All lessons, learning aids and books are provided for the student, as well as kits, tools and materials for hands-on practical exercises. Students also receive a preparation guide for the journeyman exam and should be well-prepared for this certification, and a career as an electrical inspector, after course completion.

Milwaukee Area Technical College offers an electricity technical diploma, at their downtown Milwaukee campus. This two-semester program is the stepping stone needed for those looking to pursue a career in electrical inspection. Students learn how to properly use meters to inspect electrical circuits. They also learn the basic calculations needed in the trade, as well as how to perform the physical components of the job, including: wiring, bending conduit and reading blueprints. This is an entry-level training program for this career track, with the next step for many students being an electrical apprenticeship, before advancing to electrical inspection.
