The plumbing career studies certificate at Central Virginia Community College is offered in the evening and consists of five plumbing courses, which total 15 credit hours. Students will learn principles of the plumbing trade, reading blueprints and prepare for the plumbing code and certification exam. Admission to the program is open to those 18 and older (with or without a diploma or GED) and high school upperclassmen (grades 11 and 12) with school and parental permission. Financial assistance is available for tuition payments.

The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors---National Association (PHCC) Educational Foundation PHCC offers in-classroom and distance learning plumbing training recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor, Employment & Training Administration, Office of Apprenticeship. A fast-track plumbing course is available and can be completed within 18 months in an accelerated home-study course. The foundation conducts an apprentice contest for third through fifth-year apprentices each year in October at the organization's annual conference in Las Vegas. More than $25,000 in educational scholarships are awarded each year for the educational foundation and partner college programs nationwide.

The 17-credit-hour course consists of six classes in plumbing, troubleshooting problems, blueprint reading, code and certification test preparation and welding. Course completion satisfies state requirements for the Journeyman or Master certification exam. The campus is located on a 70-acre property with an enrollment of more than 12,000 students. Enrollment is open to those 18 and older (with or without a diploma or GED) and high school students per the Virginia Plan for Dual Enrollment.
