Radiography Schools in Virginia

Radiography refers to the professional medical practice of producing x-ray images of the body to identify and treat physical conditions and injuries. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of radiographers and radiologic technologists is projected to rise by 17 percent through 2018. Several schools in Virginia currently offer training in radiography technology.

    • Virginia Commonwealth University offers a Bachelor of Science in clinical radiation sciences. Students choose one of three concentrations: radiography, radiation therapy and nuclear medicine technology. Prerequisite coursework in anatomy and physiology, algebra, physics and psychology are required, followed by three years of specialized theoretical and practical training in the physical and technical applications of radiologic science and technology.

    Virginia Highlands Community College

    • Virginia Highlands Community College offers a two-year Associate of Applied Science degree in radiography. Applicants must complete prerequisite courses in biology, chemistry and math with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Coursework includes medical terminology, patient care and protective methods, specialties within radiography, imaging equipment, radiobiology and radiographic theory and procedures. Internships in the last four semesters of the program give students the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on training prior to graduation.
