Gaston College Truck Driver Training

Located in North Carolina, Gaston College offers commercial truck driver training at its Dallas campus. The Gaston College truck driver training program consists of 12 credit hours, which encompass both classroom and lab study, completed over a period of 8.5 weeks.
  1. Program Components

    • Classroom study covers topics like CDL permits, federal safety regulations, vehicle inspection and cargo handling. The lab portion of the program covers defensive driving, road conditions and night driving.

    Program Requirements

    • Students who apply for admission to the program must be age 18 or older and have an active North Carolina driver's license. Gaston College requires applicants to complete a reading comprehension test, DOT physical and drug screening, provide a high school or college transcript if applicable and submit a motor vehicle record. Enrolled students need to obtain a "Class A" driving permit before participating in the highway driving training portion of the program.

    Cost

    • As of 2010, residents of North Carolina enrolled in the Gaston College truck driver training program paid $886 in tuition fees. Out-of-state students paid tuition fees of $3,190. Students were required to pay additional fees for the DOT physical and drug screening, and Class A driving permit and CDL licensing fees.
