The National Center for Education Statistics recognizes six schools in Colorado that offer HVAC training: Emily Griffith Opportunity School, Front Range Community College, Intellitec College at Colorado Springs, Pickens Technical College, Red Rocks Community College and Redstone College.
Both certificate programs and two-year associate degrees are available. Many programs offer part-time and evening course options. Students can focus on all aspects of HVAC and refrigeration technology or take individual certification courses in specific areas, such as residential air-conditioning or forced-air heating.
HVAC training in Colorado consists mainly of hands-on skill development alongside basic theoretical instruction. Course topics include basic electrical concepts, forced-air systems, gas boilers, mechanical codes, duct design, refrigeration concepts, residential and commercial applications, troubleshooting and repair, heat pump technology and control systems. An internship or fieldwork experience is also typically required.
