Mercer County Community College offers a two-year associate in applied science degree program with a major in aviation customer relations. Students are well prepared to seek employment as flight attendants, ticket agents, public relations consultants for major airlines, travel agents or similar customer service roles within the travel industry. In addition to general education requirements in English, computer applications, communication, science, geography and psychology, this training program includes coursework in introductory travel and tourism, aviation transportation, aerospace development, flight concepts and basic first aid.

In addition to a pilot training program, Glendale Community College in California offers a comprehensive flight attendant and travel career program. Alongside general education courses in aviation and transportation, business administration, human resources management, geography, sociology and psychology, this program includes in-depth training in communication and customer service skills, safety standards and precautions, airline reservation systems and first aid procedures. Students also have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience by volunteering at local area airports.

Rio Salado College offers an associate in applied science degree program in airline operations. Students choose from several training specializations, including reservations and ticketing services, passenger services, ground operations and initial flight attendant. Approximately half of this program is comprised of general education coursework in English, communication, math, humanities, natural science and social science. The flight attendant concentration, which is also available as a certificate of completion, consists of courses in emergency medical procedures, general operations for the Boeing 757 and Airbus 320 airplane models and emergency procedures for the Boeing 737. A minimum grade of “C” or higher must be maintained in all courses throughout this program.

A one-year certificate of achievement is offered by Orange Coast College. This airline attendant training program consists of coursework in airline operations and terminology, in-flight and ground safety procedures, first aid and cardiopulmonary certification, introductory hospitality, customer service, communication, computing for the travel industry, geography, homeland security and reservation systems. Students also have the opportunity to gain work experience within the travel industry both on campus and at the local John Wayne Airport.
