Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Colleges

Aircraft maintenance engineering colleges provide academic programs for students to be certified as aviation repair technicians by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Students receive hands-on training in identifying aircraft problems, rectifying the issues, and ensuring that all major aircraft components are working efficiently. In addition, a few of the schools provide aerospace engineering programs to pursue the knowledge of aircraft construction and design.
  1. National Aviation Academy

    • The academy provides students with training in maintaining the engines and equipment on both jet-powered and piston-powered aircraft. The program covers regulations and various areas of aviation technology. Students prepare for FAA airframe and powerplant mechanics' licensure and certification by the National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies (NCATT).

Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology

    • This college offers an associate in applied science degree in aircraft maintenance. Students may also attain a bachelor's degree in the same field or in aeronautical engineering. They receive training in aircraft repair and upkeep. Graduates of the associate degree program may seek employment in engineering technology, system construction and design fields. The aeronautical engineering bachelor's program focuses on applying math and science to aircraft electrical, navigation and communication systems, as well as avionics installation and maintenance.

    Crimson Technical College

    • The Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) program at this school requires 2,100 hours of training, preparing students to pinpoint aircraft problems and resolve them. Students acquire knowledge of aviation and flight control regulations, communication and powerplant systems, as well as aircraft repair. The instruction includes class lectures, discussions and hands-on training. Upon completing the A&P program, technicians may take the FAA A&P exam to receive certification.

    Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University

    • The university offers a bachelor's degree in aviation maintenance. In addition it offers a bachelor's and graduate degree in aerospace engineering. The aviation maintenance curriculum requires FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification to graduate from the program, except for students who wish to specialize in the field of aerospace electronics; they may either supplement their training with the A&P certification or complete a minor program of study. The aerospace engineering program trains students to plan, design and build aircraft. Once students complete 90 hours of course work with a 3.2 GPA, they may apply for the accelerated aerospace engineering degree program.
