Columbus State Community College offers an associate of applied science degree in veterinary technology. It might require up to 3 or 4 years to complete the degree, which comprises 110 credit hours. There is an opportunity to intern at the Ohio State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital. There are also two joint programs developed between Columbus State and Otterbein College and the Ohio State University's Department of Animal Science for students interested in equine science (health care for animals such as horses, donkeys and zebras) and animal science, respectively. Enrollment in these programs earns students an additional bachelor's degree in these fields.

Ohio's oldest and largest community college also offers an associate of applied science degree in veterinary technology. Although there are no tie-ins with other programs to widen students' expertise in animal health care, it is a shorter program than that of Columbus State, as it is only a little over 70 credit hours. Full-time students can typically complete it in 2 years, which consists of one summer, two fall and two spring semesters.

Unlike the two aforementioned educational institutions, the Vet Tech Institute is not a mere department within a community college; it is an institution solely dedicated to veterinary technology. With a campus in Columbus, Ohio, as well as in six other states across the country, its program can be completed in as little as 1 1/2 years. Students in their last semester are required to take on an externship at the nearby animal hospitals, veterinary offices, research facilities and animal shelters.
