LSU-Eunice offers a Certificate of Technical Studies in medical sonography. Applicants must meet all the general university admission requirements as well as apply separately to the health sciences division in order to take sonography courses. Applicants must also complete prerequisite courses that include anatomy and physiology, medical technology and introduction to sonography. The courses required for the certificate program include instrumentation, obstetrics and gynecology, abdominal ultrasound, laboratory and clinical work.

Delgado Community College in New Orleans offers a Certificate of Technical Studies in medical sonography, which is a 16-month full-time program. Graduates go on to take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography exam in Obstetrics-Gynecology, Abdomen and Ultrasound Physics areas of specialization. The certificate program includes courses in ultrasound, physics and instrumentation, OBGYN and abdominal ultrasound. Applicants must have a two-year degree in another allied health occupation or have 60 credit hours of college education in order to apply as well as a 2.5 GPA. Prerequisite courses include English composition, algebra, medical terminology, physics, anatomy and physiology. Prospective students must submit their application materials by May 15 to begin fall classes.

The LSU Health Sciences Center-New Orleans has a Department of Cardiopulmonary Science that offers a certificate program with a cardiovascular technology track to train students in the use of vascular ultrasound. Courses include cardiopulmonary sciences, anatomy, patient assessments, vascular technology, ultrasound physics and instrumentation, pharmacology, medical ethics and clinical work. Students must maintain a 2.0 GPA to remain in the program, and the application deadline is early March for classes beginning in May.

CTT is a vascular ultrasound training program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. This two-year program includes evening courses in vascular sonography topics to prepare graduates to operate equipment, monitor readings and explain procedures to patients. The program also includes clinical work, typically two days per week during normal business hours.
