Environmental Health Schools

According to the National Environmental Health Science and Protection Accreditation Council (EHAC), environmental health involves the study of environmental factors that may harm human health, and the identification, prevention and control of such factors. The EHAC accredits more than 30 undergraduate and seven graduate programs in the U.S. Environmental health professionals often work in government and as corporate consultants.
  1. California State University at Northridge

    • The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health at the California State University at Northridge offers bachelor's and master's degrees and a minor course of study in environmental and occupational health. Students may elect for a focus in industrial hygiene at both levels. The bachelor's degree curriculum with the industrial hygiene designation has approval from the Accreditation Board for Engineering Technology. The Northridge campus sits on 356 acres in the San Fernando Valley near Los Angeles and has nearly 36,000 students.

    East Tennessee State University

    • The College of Public Health at East Tennessee State University offers bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. programs in environmental health. In the bachelor's course, students may elect for a concentration in occupational health and safety. Students choose between an administrative or specialist track in the the master's curriculum. The college offers graduate certificate programs in biostatistics, epidemiology, gerontology, health care management and rural health. Topics include environmental analysis, air pollution, wastewater treatment and water supply, solid waste management, public health law, food sanitation, toxicology and soil science. The 350-acre main ETSU campus welcomes close to 12,000 students annually.

    Old Dominion University

    • The School of Community and Environmental Health at Old Dominion University offers a bachelor of science in environmental health that includes a summer internship in a Hampton Roads, Virginia-area government or industrial setting. Students in other degree plans can minor in environmental health by taking a minimum of 12 department-specific credit hours. The school offers master's programs in community health and public health and has master's certificates in cytotechnology, occupational safety and ophthalmic technology. The ODU campus has an enrollment of more than 23,000 students on the 188-acre campus.
