Ultrasound Technician Schools in Washington

Ultrasound technicians are responsible for taking pictures of the inside of the body without surgery. Ultrasound technician schools take between 2 and 4 years to complete and prepare students for jobs in these medical facilities. Once students finish school, they work in obstetrics/gynecology sonography, breast sonography and echocardiography.
  1. Bellevue College

    • Bellevue College's Health Sciences, Education and Wellness Institute prepares students entering health care professions. This school offers associate in arts degrees in diagnostic ultrasound and certificates of completion in breast ultrasound. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs accredits this program. Upon completion, students can take the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers' National Certification examination.

      Bellevue's ultrasound programs have a selective admission process. Students must complete prerequisite courses, including physics, bioethics, medical terminology and human anatomy, and earn an overall 3.2 grade point average. Application submissions consist of complete application forms, official transcripts in sealed envelopes, personal statements, resumes and two personal video statements. Health education programs require immunization records and background checks.

    Seattle University

    • Seattle University College of Science and Engineering offers a bachelor of science in diagnostic ultrasound. This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. To apply for this program, applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from faculty members and/or employers, personal essays, high school diplomas and/or official transcripts from accredited college. Faculty members review applications.

      Students are encouraged to volunteer in health-related activities or get jobs in health care facilities to improve interpersonal communication skills. The College of Science and Engineering provides internship opportunities in general vascular or cardiovascular ultrasounds that last 12 months. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to apply for an internship.

    Tacoma Community College

    • Tacoma Community College's Health, Justice and Human Services Division offers an associate of applied science degree in diagnostic medical sonography. This program includes classwork, on-campus lab work and clinical work at affiliated ultrasound departments in the area. Students focus on anatomy and pathophysiology in all of their courses. The Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography accredits this course.

      Applicants must take courses in medical terminology, human anatomy and physics with a 2.5 GPA. Enrollees must pass a physical, have up-to-date immunization records, have proof of insurance, be certified in CPR and spend 8 hours at a hospital or clinic. The ultrasound program accepts approximately 16 students each fall.
