West Virginia University at Parkersburg offers a certificate program in welding, lasting one year when taken full time. Coursework includes requirements such as welding blueprint reading, shop math, metallurgy and basic oxyacetylene welding, plus electives such as steel fabrication and fabrication shop. Students may apply their courses to the school's two-year associate degree in welding technology. Students must maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.0 to graduate. Program graduates then take the West Virginia State Certification exam in welding.

Students at York Technical College have two options for welding certificates: a basic welding certificate and a certificate in pipe welding. Each certificate consists of three courses, taken over a one-year period of time. Classes include arc welding, gas welding and cutting, pipe fitting and welding, Tungsten arc welding and advanced inert gas welding. Students may take courses in the daytime or evening. While at York, welding students may participate in campus activities such as blood drives, a book fair, musical performances, theme and spirit days and student government.

Black Hawk College offers an 18-month certificate program in welding. Student coursework includes arc welding, MIG reading, TIG welding, oxy-aceteylene welding and cutting, basic precision management, welding blueprint reading and welding with globular transfer and short arc. Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED; previous shop experience is helpful but not required. Athletic-minded students may be interested in joining one of Black Hawk's sports teams or using the school's aquatic center. Black Hawk also offers on-campus clubs such as the jazz society, art collective, soccer club, student government association and gaming club.
