Established in 1885, Medford, Oregon is approximately 170 miles south of the city of Eugene with a population of more than 73,000 residents as of July 2008. The town is home to a number of private and public colleges, which offer programs that prepare students for entry into a variety of careers. The Oregon Employment Department predicts that there will be a demand for registered nurses, general and operations management, teachers and electricians through 2016.

    • Established in 1970 and accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Rogue Community College is a public, two-year institution with more than 19,000 students across its three campuses in southern Oregon. The college's Riverside Campus is in Medford and offers associate degrees in a variety of areas, such as auto repair, business technology, construction management, electrical contracting, early childhood education, fire science, nursing, welding and plumbing. Internships are included in most majors. Students at the college have the option to study abroad for a semester or during the summer in countries Costa Rica, Italy, Mexico or the United Kingdom. Federal and state financial aid is available for qualified students.

    Abdill Career College

    • Abdill Career College is a private, post-secondary vocational school accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges of Technology. The school opened in 1980 and offers certificates in dental and medical assisting, medical office administration, medical transcription, legal assisting, bookkeeping, office technology and phlebotomy. Programs typically require one year or less to complete. All students have the opportunity to complete brief internships prior to graduation. In addition to federal financial aid programs, the college participates in private lending programs through Sallie Mae.

    RCC/SOU Higher Education Center

    • A public institution, the RCC/SOU Higher Education Center is affiliated with Southern Oregon University (SOU) and Rogue Community College (RCC) and is accredited through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. The school offers Associate of Science and Associate of Arts degree programs that fulfill the general education requirements necessary for most baccalaureate programs, allowing students to transfer to a four-year institution upon graduation. The college also offers bachelor's degrees in business, human services and psychology. At the graduate level, the Higher Education Center offers master's programs in business administration, management and teaching. Courses for all of the programs are available at night to accommodate the schedules of working adults. Federal and state financial aid programs are available for qualified students.

    Pacific Bible College

    • A private, nondenominational Christian institution, Pacific Bible College opened in 1989. The college is approved by the Oregon Board of Education but does not carry any other accreditation. Students at the college may opt to pursue a one-year certificate in Biblical Studies or a two-year Associate of Biblical Studies degree. All students complete mission projects prior to graduation. The school offers its courses during evening hours. Although it does not qualify for government financial aid programs, the college offers a variety of payment plans.
