Good Quality Culinary Schools

The International Association of Culinary Professionals awarded its bi-annual Best Vocational Cooking School Award in 2008 to The Institute of Culinary Education. The award in 2006 and 2010 went to the French Culinary Institute, the alma mater of chef Bobby Flay. Le Cordon Bleu in Paris was the institute of choice for Food Network star Giada de Laurentiis and Julia Child. Chef Malcolm Livingston II, premiere pastry commis chef at the famous restaurant Le Cirque in New York City, attended the International Culinary Schools at The Art Institutes. These schools are unquestionably at the top of list for culinary education.

    • The 35-year old Institute of Culinary Education, founded in 1975 by Peter Kump, is located in New York City. Its diploma programs-- culinary arts, pastry and baking arts, culinary management and hospitality management-- can be completed in eight to 12 months. Chef instructors focus first on the techniques of classic French cooking and baking. Later, the focus shifts to gobal cuisine, including Indian, Latin, Italian and Thai.

    The French Culinary Institute

    • Diplomas in classic culinary arts, classic pastry arts and the art of international bread baking can be gained in around six months at the French Culinary Institute. The New York school's philosophy lies in teaching chefs classic French techniques while inviting American inventiveness in their presentation. The faculty includes master chefs such as Jacques Pépin and Jacques Torres.

    Le Cordon Bleu

    • The famous Le Cordon Bleu has been training chefs for more than 110 years. A Parisian school now found in 29 cities around the world, Le Cordon Bleu's offers programs of professional study in cuisine, pastry, management and gastronomy. Students can choose among schools in Paris, London, Madrid, Melbourne, Seoul and Tokyo, among other cities.
