Canadian Broadcasting Schools

Television and radio broadcasting is a constantly shifting and growing industry. People who wish to pursue a career in broadcasting need the necessary skills and experience to make it in what can often be a highly competitive business. Obtaining such qualifications at a broadcasting school is usually an essential part of a new career in broadcasting.
  1. Ryerson University

    • Ryerson University's School of Radio and Television Arts in Toronto, Ontario, claims to be "Canada's leading undergraduate university program for broadcast education and research." The university was founded first as an institute of technology in 1948. A year later, Ryerson's first radio station was established and in 1953, according to Ryerson, television facilities were added and the school began to offer a diploma in Radio and Television Arts. Ryerson officially became a university in 1993, the same year it began offering graduate programs in communications and broadcasting. Its Radio and Television Arts program accepts 165 students from around the world each year.

    Columbia Academy

    • Columbia Academy is located in Vancouver, British Columbia. It was founded in 1967 and has produced many alumni who have gone on to not only great careers but also award-winning productions. Columbia Academy's successful graduates include Michael Williamson, an Emmy Award winner who has worked as a sound mixer for feature films as well as the CBS television drama "Criminal Minds." Columbia Academy has two in-house radio stations, three recording studios and a video, film and television production studio.

    Seneca College

    • Seneca College, with campuses located in the greater Toronto area, has a program in radio and television broadcasting as well as two joint programs with York University. Each program requires four semesters or two years to complete and successful students are awarded an Ontario College Diploma. The radio or television programs offer "pre-professional training" in production skills, according to Seneca College's official website. The joint program with York University allows students to obtain a broadcasting diploma with Seneca while earning a bachelor of arts degree with York University.
