Ohio State University is the largest four-year higher learning institute in the Buckeye State and provides a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Journalism with a Broadcasting emphasis. Both degrees are available through the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. Classes include broadcasting for radio, television and Internet media. Students in this Ohio State program have chances to participate in internships at on-campus and local Columbus, Ohio, radio and television stations. If students have a 3.0 grade average in the junior year, they may create their own course of study, via the Carr Van Anda program.
Cincinnati University offers a one-year broadcasting certificate through the Raymond Walters College, which is at the university's campus in Blue Ash, a northern suburb of greater Cincinnati. The program is available through the college's Electronic Media Communication Department. Students in this program learn about cable and television broadcasting. The campus television station allows students to garner experience during their college years. Other classes include motion graphics, documentary production, media design and video conferencing. The one-year certificate at Raymond Walters College transfers to the student's overall Bachelor degree from the University of Cincinnati's main campus.
Located in northeastern Cincinnati, the Art Institute of Ohio provides broadcasting classes through its Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production. Broadcasting opportunities are also available for students working toward an Associate of Applied Science degree in Video Production. The B.F.A. program lasts four years, while the A.A.S. degree takes two years. These programs focus on the technical aspects of broadcasting -- such as cinematography, editing, lighting and scriptwriting.
The Ohio Center for Broadcasting offers broadcasting classes at campuses in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Columbus. These schools specifically emphasize education in television and radio broadcasting. Students have access to internships for television and radio stations throughout Ohio. On-site studios are available for students to gain in-front and behind the camera experience. The Ohio Center for Broadcasting has a Graduate Relations Department, which is in place to assist graduates of the school into the broadcasting workforce.
