San Joaquin Valley College is a private junior college with campuses across California. Founded in 1977, the college's Fresno location offers a program in aviation maintenance technology. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded an Associate of Science degree and are ready to take the Federal Aviation Administration's Airframe and Powerplant licensing exam. The degree program offers instruction on aircraft engine repair, airframe repair and fuel metering systems. Students are afforded hands-on experience at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University was founded in 1926, and specializes only in aviation and aerospace. The university has two residential campuses in the United States, as well as learning centers around the world and online courses. Students at the Daytona Beach campus can earn an Associate of Science or Bachelor of Science in aviation maintenance science. Curriculum in the programs includes maintenance mathematics and physics, turbine engines and fundamentals of electricity. Students in the bachelor's program also choose between three concentrations: aerospace electronics, flight and maintenance management.

In operation since 1969, National Aviation Academy is licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration to offer aviation maintenance training. The school has five technical programs, including an Associate of Science degree in maintenance management technology and diplomas in aviation maintenance professional and avionics technology. Programs include both classroom instruction and hands-on practical experience. Students spend about half of their studies working directly on aircraft, and emphasis is placed on career-related applicable skills.
