Hydrology courses require knowledge of advanced algebra and trigonometry. Prior knowledge of land surveying fundamentals and CAD drafting also can be helpful.
Hydrology and hydraulics, like other engineering disciplines, require students to be competent performing calculations. Working knowledge of computers is necessary, since many advanced hydrology and hydraulics calculations are performed using computer software.
By the end of a hydrology course, students are able to design drainage, sewer or water systems in accordance with engineering specifications. In fact, most students leave hydraulics and hydrology courses with a completed drainage project for their portfolio.
