Amazonas English Academy - International School of Amazonas was established in 2003 to accommodate British missionaries who often left the Amazonas and returned to Britain in pursuit of their children's education. The school grew and students of Brazilian, Korean and North American nationalities began attending, too. The school is an international center for examinations and a primary school member of the University of Cambridge in England. According to the school's blog, graduates of the school will be prepared to attend a university program in more than 130 countries. The bilingual curriculum includes English and Portuguese, and 6-year-old students were reading, speaking and writing both languages fluently in their third year of attendance. There are more than 100 students ages 3-18 in the school's two buildings, one for students younger than 7 years of age and the other for students from 7 to 18.
