Financial institutions often sell and trade student loans. This can cause confusion for the person trying to make payments in a timely fashion. The National Student Loan Data system holds the names, addresses and phone numbers of the banks that currently service your student loans. You can contact them via phone or the Internet.

  • Your date of birth
  • PIN issued to you when you applied for financial aid

      Call the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) at 800-433-3243, or go online to nslds.ed.gov.

      Provide to the telephone representative, or at the website, your Social Security Number, the first two letters of your last name, your date of birth and your PIN. The PIN is the specialized number that was created for you at the time you initially submitted your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

      Click the "Submit" button, if you are on the website. A page will populate with a list of your student loans and the corresponding lender information.

      The telephone representative will provide the same information on the lenders who service your student loans.

      Write down the lender information provided on the phone, including account numbers, or print the information from the website. Neither the website nor the phone representative can mail out the information to you.
