How to Find All Your Student Loans

Because lending institutions regularly sell and trade student loans, it can become confusing and time consuming to find all of your student loans by calling various companies and following different paper trails. The National Student Loan Data System houses information for all your student loans. You only need to contact them via phone or internet, and provide some personal information, to learn what companies currently service the loans.

  • Social security number
  • Your date of birth
  • PIN number (used to apply for financial aid originally)
  • Pen

      Retrieve your financial aid PIN number. You will need it to access your records either online or via phone. If you do not remember your pin number, you need to log on to the internet and visit the PIN website at pin.ed.gov and follow the directions to retrieve your PIN number.

      Call the National Student Loan Data System or log on to the website found in the Reference section of this article. You will need to provide your social security number, the first two letters of your last name, your date of birth and your PIN. If you call, the representative will use this information to locate the companies that currently service all of your student loans. If you are entering this information online, check to make sure the information is correct, then click "Submit." The next page that loads after hitting the "Submit" button will provide you the same information.

      Write down the lender contact information the representative or the web page gives you.
