A grommet is a rubber, plastic, or metal ring used to hold documents together. The grommet is inserted around the hole of the document to reinforce the hole and help prevent the paper from tearing. If you want to copy or scan the document, you must remove the grommet. Use the right method to avoid tearing the document when you remove the grommet.
- Heavy cardboard
- Concave tip punch (slightly larger than the diameter of the grommet)
- Hammer
- Tweezers

1
Place a piece of heavy cardboard down on a table to protect the surface. Place the document with the grommet on top of the cardboard.
-
2
Position the concave tip punch over the grommet. Hit the punch with a hammer in order to make the punch cut through the paper. For a very thick document, you may need to hit the punch several times with the hammer.
