Difference in Technician & Technologist

The terms "technician" and "technologist" do not have the same meaning, even though they are interconnected. They are different in many aspects because a technician and a technologist vary in educational levels and duties.
  1. Differences

    • A technologist has a superior responsibility than a technician, and a technician is simply an individual with a sensible knowledge of technology. A technician has a large understanding of the basic principles of the line of work he is performing, while a technologist is a person who is entirely knowledgeable of a range of technologies.

    Education Requirements

    • The education required to become a technologist consists of an engineering degree and the courses take about four to five years. A technician requires a general diploma certificate that requires only two years of courses.

    Technologist Duties

    • A technologist guides the technician and has widespread duties, which may include designing and performing studies, problem solving, explaining and overseeing situations, increasing prototypes and performing leadership roles.

    Technician Duties

    • A technician works under a technologist and performs the hands-on duties that involve repairs, upkeep and troubleshooting.
