Research different universities. For example, if you want to major specifically in French, visit the websites of several universities you're interested in and click on links such as "College of Liberal Arts," "French" or "Foreign Languages" and find out what type of curriculum is offered to those who plan to major in French. Then evaluate each university's French degree program to determine which schools you'll apply to.
Apply to the universities you're interested in. In addition to the applications, entrance essays and application fees, also order your high school transcripts to send with your application packages at least 3 weeks before the applications' due date and visit the US Department of Education's Federal Application for Free Student Aid (FAFSA) website, fafsa.ed.gov, to apply for federal grants and student loans. Finally, seek out scholarships by meeting with your guidance counselor and asking if there are any that meet your interests and financial needs.
Complete all of your required courses in the degree program. If you need assistance with some of your classes, meet with your professors, classmates or tutors in the Romance Languages department and tell them specifically what areas you're struggling with.
