The University of Oxford is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the English-speaking world. At Oxford, you can work towards a doctorate in a number of different fields, such as Philosophy, Music, Biochemistry, Classic Languages and Literature, Medieval and Modern Languages, Materials, General Linguistics and Comparative Philology, and Architectural History. Pursuing a doctorate is different in the UK than in the United States; in the UK, the focus is primarily on faculty-supervised research resulting in a dissertation, rather than on coursework.
