The University of Alaska Fairbanks is the only University branch in Alaska that can grant doctoral degrees without collaboration with another school. As of 2010, there were 17 doctoral degrees offered by the school, including in fields like atmospheric science, indigenous people studies, biological sciences, engineering, and mathematics. UAF also works with several other schools, such as UAA, to offer collaborative doctoral degrees. The engineering program here is considered one of the best in the United States, while all the natural science doctoral programs are also well-regarded.

The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) offers many graduate degrees, including a couple of doctorate programs and one post-doctorate certificate. The Anchorage campus doctorate programs are all collaborative, meaning a student there is going to work hand in hand with other universities and professors in order to complete his or her doctorate degree. Doctoral programs at UAA include biochemistry, molecular biology, and fisheries and ocean studies for the sciences. The collaborative clinical and community psychology doctorate program with UAF is also a popular choice, and there is a post-professional Doctor of Occupational Therapy degree.
