Football Coaching Scholarships

Coaches for professional sporting teams often earn their positions after retiring as players from a particular sport, such as football. Aspiring secondary and postsecondary athletic coaches, however, are required to have at least a bachelor's degree in a program such as physical education, sports management, athletic administration or fitness instruction. Some schools and nonprofit organizations offer scholarships for aspiring coaches enrolled in such a university program.
  1. Elton J. Rynearson Scholar-Athlete Award

    • While there are no scholarship programs specifically geared towards aspiring football coaches, there are scholarship programs designed for students involved in physical education, coaching or intercollegiate athletic programs. One such scholarship is the Elton J. Rynearson Scholar-Athlete Award, which is offered exclusively at Eastern Michigan University. Established in 1966 in the name of a former head football coach and athletic director, the scholarship is given out annually to one college football player who best embodies both athletic and scholastic excellence. Students interested in applying for the scholarship should also be enrolled in a degree program related to human health promotion and should have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average.
