Entrepreneurship Education Grants

Undergraduates, graduate students and doctoral candidates interested in the study of entrepreneurship can find grants to help them pay for their education. Grants are available through government-sponsored programs, private foundations and corporate foundations. While many grants are awarded only to low-income students, other opportunities are available based on previous academic achievement and innovative goals for the future.
  1. Pell Grant

    • Government-funded grant opportunity.

The U.S. Department of Education's Pell grants are open to all low-income undergraduate and graduate students. You can use Pell grants for general studies and to study entrepreneurship at public and private universities throughout the United States and at some international educational institutions. Students must maintain a C average in order to remain eligible for future grants. Apply for a grant using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

The Kauffman Dissertation Fellowship Program offers 15 grants annually in the amount of $20,000 each to candidates pursuing a doctorate degree in the area of entrepreneurship. The program is open to students who are still in the initial phases of developing their proposals for the dissertation and for dissertations that already have received approval. The grants may be used for research, materials and travel. The application deadline is in September. Applicants who receive other grants and funding are also eligible to apply.

Additional grants are available for students through university programs funded directly by the foundation.

    Goldman Sachs Foundation

    • Corporate education grant for entrepreneurs.

The Goldman Sachs Foundation offers educational grants that focus on combining entrepreneurship with social enterprise. Grant opportunities are available for U.S. and international studies and are awarded to students who have completed at least one year of study at the university or college level. The grants are competitive, taking into consideration grade-point averages and community service experience. Financial need is also given priority. Other considerations include the student's interest in working in leadership roles in the public sector, specifically social entrepreneurship.
