Through the IHL benefit, full-time status is considered 12 or more credit hours at a four-year university or community college. For veterans pursuing graduate degrees, however, full-time status is determined by the college. Veterans can also attend multiple institutions to achieve full-time status.
Available through GI bills other than the Post-9/11 Bill, co-op benefits enable veterans to attend school while working. This is often accomplished through a partnership between a school program and an employer in that same field. Under this type of program, veterans are considered full-time students for benefit purposes.
In addition to attending school, the GI Bills will reimburse veterans and active-duty personnel for the cost of licensing and certification exams. Instead of determining the benefit based on full-time or part-time status, the GI Bill will pay for the test in full up to $2,000.
