Missouri Grants for Single Mothers

Single mothers often face challenges that childless or married women do not. In addition to working to support themselves and their children, single mothers are sometimes left to deal with the financial, emotional and physical aspects of child rearing on their own. Fortunately, several grant programs are available to help single mothers in Missouri offset the costs of housing, education and legal fees.
  1. HUD Based Grants

    • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a federally funded agency, distributes housing grants to qualifying individuals. Single mothers in Missouri who qualify may benefit from these grants. Funds can be used to offset the cost of rental housing through monthly disbursements, also called vouchers, or toward the down payment of a home or for necessary repairs to the applicant's residence. In order to qualify for grants through HUD, applicants must not exceed income requirements determined by state and federal agencies. Interested applicants may apply directly through their local Missouri HUD office to see whether they qualify.

In addition, qualifying family members of disabled veterans or those who have died as a result of a service- related injury may qualify for educational grants through the VA.
