Child-Care Grants for College

Are you a parent looking for child care grants while you attend school? Most of child care grants are dependent on financial need rather than merit, and many are based on residency. However, a few child care grants exist on the national level, open to U.S.-based students with children.
  1. Government Grants

    • Grants.gov offers scholarships for single parents

Government Grants, also known as Grants.gov, is the largest provider of grants and scholarships for single parents. Applicants apply based on their intended field of study and university. In their statement of interest, applicants indicate that funds are to be used, in part, for childcare while in school. Deadlines and scholarship amounts depend on the grant supplier.

Jeanette Rankin Foundation Women's Scholarship Fund

    • Scholarship opportunties exist for single mothers

The Jeannette Rankin Foundation Women's Scholarship Fund offers grants and scholarships to low-income students, including mothers with young children. Applicants must be female, age 35 years or older, a U.S. citizen, and enrolled in a technical school or BA program. Eligibility is based on income and number of people in your family. Transcripts, letters of reference, financial information, and a statement of interest are required for consideration. The deadline changes every year, so visit the website for complete guidelines.

Raise the Nation's "Child of a Single Parent Women Scholarship" is for women in school who can still claim their children as dependents. Children of single mothers can also apply. There is a one-time application fee and the award is based on financial need, merit, high-school GPA and statement of interest. The deadline varies each year and the amount awarded depends on income guidelines. Raise the Nation is one of the biggest scholarship providers for single parents and offers over 100 scholarships a year.
