How to Add More Than 10 Schools to the FAFSA

If you intend to go to college and will be filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you'll have to list at least one college you're interested in. But when you file the FAFSA you usually have not yet been accepted or even applied to all of the colleges you plan to. List potential colleges--the maximum allowed is 10. Then switch them out later if you want to add the names of other schools.

Instructions

    • 1

Submit the FAFSA form with your first 10 colleges listed. List the colleges in any order. But check the application-submission deadlines for each college and list the ones with the earliest deadlines first.

    • 2

Wait to receive your Student Aid Report (SAR). The report is confirmation that your FAFSA information has gone to the colleges you listed.

    • 3

Log in to your account on their FAFSA website (see Resources).

    • 4

      Click on "Make FAFSA Corrections."

    • 5

Remove the colleges you have already listed and replace them with the codes for the next set of schools. Submit the form for correction. The new colleges will then receive your information and you will receive an updated SAR.
