How to Select More Than 10 Schools on the FAFSA

Rising tuition costs are a challenge for many prospective college students. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, offers financial assistance to those pursuing a post-secondary education. While the FAFSA form only allows you to list 10 schools, once you have your FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR), you can make the information available to additional colleges.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the FAFSA website and go to the link "Make FAFSA Corrections" to remove some of the colleges listed on your application and add the additional school codes. Submit the changes.

    • 2

Provide your name, Social Security number and the Data Release Number (DRN) from your SAR to the additional schools to which you are applying. They will add their school code to your application and receive an electronic copy of your SAR.

    • 3

Call the Federal Student Aid Information Center to have a customer service representative make school changes on your behalf. When calling, you need your DRN from your confirmation page or your SAR. The confirmation page is the page you receive when you submit your FAFSA application.

    • 4

If you are working with a paper version of your SAR, you can replace the colleges listed on the report with other colleges, and mail it to Federal Student Aid offices.
