Apply to the technical school or college you wish to attend. You need to be accepted to the school before you apply for the military GI Bill.
Complete the GI Bill application (Form 22-1990) on the Department of Veterans Affairs website. Complete all sections of the application, including information about direct deposit. If you are unable to complete the application online, visit the VA representative on your campus for the application. In addition to providing the application materials, this person can also help you complete the paperwork and submit it to the VA for you.
Submit the appropriate forms with the application. Include copies of your DD214, kicker contracts and a voided check. Depending on your enlistment date and benefits, you may also need to send delayed enlistment papers and social security cards and birth certificates of dependents.
Send the application to the center designated on the application based on your state of residence. Don't forget to sign the application before sending it. The VA will send you a letter detailing eligibility for benefits after your application has been processed.
Submit proof of eligibility every month you are enrolled in school by calling the VA or completing the online form. This process verifies the number of class hours you are currently taking each month. Your payment will be processed after this form has been completed and deposited directly into your bank account.
