The LEEP Dream Scholarship is a $1,000 grant that will be awarded to a deserving student that's graduating high school with the intention of pursuing a degree and a career in a law enforcement related field. This includes those who are intending on becoming firefighters, police officers and others. Those who are interested must submit a LEEP application along with a copy of their high school transcripts and at least a single letter of recommendation from a teacher, community leader, or a work supervisor. While not necessary, applicants may also send copies of awards and achievements that may help support their cause.
Another grant that can be used to pursue a college degree in law enforcement is the Texas Women in Law Enforcement scholarship. This scholarship is more restricted in nature, since it can only be awarded to individuals who are members of the TWLE, or to those who are close family members of a TWLE member. The scholarship is in the amount of $1,000, and in order to qualify the member of the TWLE who is applying (either for themselves or for a family member) must have been a member of the organization in good standing for at least two years.
For those who live in the San Diego area, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department awards eight separate scholarships each year. These grants are in the amount of $1500, and they're awarded in the memory of eight deputies who died in the line of duty. The money in these grants is meant to assist students graduating from high school achieve their college diploma, and it's given to students who, "has demonstrated academic ability, leadership, moral integrity and initiative." These grants are a one time amount, and they're paid to the college of choice.
