Hawaii Education Grants

Residents of the state of Hawaii are eligible for several education grant and scholarship programs. Most are reserved for Hawaii residents, usually those attending an accredited four-year college in the state. Some programs require a specific major; others are more flexible. Most scholarship applications---whether a Hawaii-restricted or a nationwide program---require an essay and evidence of academic achievement, such as a school transcript.
  1. Hawaii Chuck Yim Gee Scholarship

    • Hawaii Chuck Yim Gee Scholarship, sponsored by the Tourism Cares company, is an educational grant opportunity for residents of the state. Applicants must be planning full-time junior- or senior-level study at the University of Hawaii Manoa's School of Travel Industry Management.

The program is designed for students pursuing careers in hospitality management or administration, or other aspects of the travel and tourism industry. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. The application process also requires the student to write an essay on his career goals and provide two letters of recommendation. One $1,500 award is granted each year.

The Adventures in Education website notes that eligible students can contact the assistant dean in the travel management program at the University of Hawaii Manoa for Chuck Yim Gee Scholarship details.

Students can also write to Tourism Cares for application details, according to the "CollegeBoard 2010 Scholarship Handbook." The book also recommends sending a self-addressed stamped envelope when requesting scholarship details through postal mail.
