How to Find My Canada Student Loan Number

The government of Canada provides loan assistance for Canadian post-secondary students who need help paying for school through the Canada Student Loan Program. The National Student Loan Service Centre is responsible for the management of Canada student loans and integrated student loans with the provinces of Ontario, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Saskatchewan. If you know your Canada student loan number, you can register on the National Student Loan Service Centre website to check the status of your loan approval, see your remaining balance or update your personal information.

      Find a letter sent to you by the National Student Loans Service Centre. Any correspondence sent to you by the National Student Loans Service Centre regarding your Canada student loan has your Canada student loan number on it.

      Look at the right hand margin on the letter.

      Look beside "Your Canada Student Loan Number." Your Canada student loan number is seven digits. Your provincial loans may also be listed here with different numbers.

    On Your Loan Agreement

      Find your Consolidated Student Loan Agreement. This is the document that you signed in order to receive your loan.

      Look under "Loan Number(s)."

      Look beside "Canada Student Loan." Your Canada student loan number is seven digits. Your provincial loans may also be listed here with different numbers.

    By Phone

      Have your personal information ready. You need to provide your social insurance number and date of birth in order to get your student loan number. You may also be asked questions about your address or phone number in order to verify your identity.

      Call the National Student Loan Service Centre at 1-888-815-4514. Agents are available from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

      Follow the prompts to get your Canada student loan number.

    By Mail

      Write a short letter explaining that you need your Canada student loan number.

      Include your first and last names, date of birth and social insurance number along with your address and contact information. Also, sign and date the letter.
