Decide which type of housing you prefer between off-campus housing and a dormitory. If you prefer to have a more private and personal living space, then off-campus housing may be a better fit for you. If you like to mingle, you do not mind sharing your living space and want to live on campus, then a dorm may be more fitting.
Call or visit your college's student housing resource center. Your college will be able to provide you with a list of housing that fits your preference. If you have friends you would like to live with, inform the student housing center of your requests so it can find places that have availability for more than one person. The resource center may provide you with a few locations that the school owns and operates, including on- and off-campus housing. Schedule an appointment to view a few places because they may offer different amenities.
Visit a website such as Apartment Reviews, Campus Rent or Go Student Rental to view apartments that house students and are not owned or operated by your college (see Resources). Apartments not associated with the college may still offer student services such as shuttles, all-inclusive utilities and require you are a student to live there.
