Scholarships for Teen Parents

Being a teenage parent doesn't mean you have to give up on a dream of going to college. While having a kid can present plenty of unforeseen and often insurmountable expenses, teenage parents that still wish to continue their education can make use of special scholarships. Several scholarships and grants exist solely for teen parents and provide funds to go to school and earn a degree.
  1. Denise Davis Teen Parent Scholarship Program

    • The Denise Davis Teen Parent Scholarship Program is a long-running nationwide program that aims to help teen parents further their education. The scholarship is awarded to selected applicants each year and provides $500 to help pay tuition and fees at the student's university. The program is open to any qualifying student in the U.S. and requires a completed application. The application process includes some basic forms as well as letters of recommendation and proof of your previously completed education as well as an outline of your plans for pursuing a higher education.

    Pratto Family Life Fund

    • The Pratto funding program is a location-specific scholarship fund available to qualifying teenage parents in the Greensboro, North Carolina region. This long-running program is unique in that the application process involves enrollment and attendance at a teen parenting program offered in the area. The parenting program is designed to educate and better teenage parents in various aspects of life. Any teen parents that complete the program and plan to attend college are automatically eligible to be awarded the Pratto Family Life Scholarship. This scholarship, if awarded, provides $500 in general-use funds to be put towards tuition and other school expenses. The money donated to recipients is provided to the fund by donors who are often unaffiliated with the group itself.

    Teen Parent Connection

    • The Teen Parent Connection scholarship program is another location-specific program, this time involving teen parents in the Illinois area. The scholarship stems from the Teen Parent Connection group that gives mentoring and education services to teenage parents in the area. As part of the mentoring aspect the program, teen parents are encouraged to pursue higher education. As such, any teen parent enrolled in the Teen Parent Connection program is automatically eligible for one of the scholarships. The awarded scholarships are for differing amounts, but the application process is the same. Letters of recommendation are required from the applicant as well as a personal written statement outlining their future plans and why they desire a college education. The scholarship funds are awarded each year to selected applicants within the program.
