Chicago Scholars offers a dynamic support network for outstanding middle and high school students on their way to college. In addition to mentoring, independent living skills workshops, access to university faculty members and internships, they offer annual renewable scholarships and assistance with seeking further scholastic funding. The Chicago Scholars scholarship application becomes available on their website on December 15 each year. You must be a high school junior at a school in Chicago and a U.S. citizen or permanent resident with a 3.0 or better GPA and 20 or better PLAN/Explore test score to qualify for the scholarship. The renewable merit scholarship provides $1250 per year over four years of college.

Chicago Scholars also administers the World Sport Chicago (WSC) Scholarship for student athletes with funds provided by the MacArthur Foundation. You must be a high school junior in the Fall of the year when you apply for the scholarship, must live and attend classes in Chicago and must have taken part in an eligible Summer Olympic or Paralympic sport for two seasons in the past three years to qualify for the scholarship program. Winners gain admission to a Chicago Scholars mentoring program for their junior and senior years of high school and receive Kaplan ACT tutoring. They also have the opportunity to be considered for a $10,000 per year renewable college scholarship. Applications become available on the WSC website every August.

Resources for the Education of Adults in the Chicago Area (REACh) offers scholarships for adults 25 and older who are returning to college. You must be admitted to a degree or certificate program in a REACh certified school, live in Chicago and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to be eligible for the program. Undergraduate applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and have 12 semester or 15 quarter credits, and graduate students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on the latter half of their bachelor degree credits or in 12 semester or 15 quarter graduate credits to qualify for the scholarship. REACh offers four $1500 scholarships per year. Applications must be submitted by April 1 of each year.
