College of the Ozarks in Hollister, Missouri is a four-year liberal arts Christian college founded in 1905 by a Presbyterian missionary. The college has a student body of 1,400, a 1,000 acre campus, and offers 34 degree programs, including nursing. All full time students work instead of paying tuition and the school does not participate in any government programs. Recognized consistently since 1989 as a Best College by "U.S. News & World Report" and in the "Money Magazine" Best Buy College Guide, College of the Ozarks was also rated number one in 2010 by "U.S. News & World Report" for the “lowest acceptance rate,” and number one for “Great School for Great Price.” Unique aspects of this school are that alcohol and drugs are prohibited for students and debt is openly discouraged. Work requirements include a 15-hour-per-week schedule during school and two 40-hour weeks when school is not in session. Detailed work records are kept and benefit students in more ways than just as tuition replacement. They are valuable work experience and work references after students graduate and begin their careers.

Berea College in Kentucky is a liberal arts college founded by Christian abolitionists and reformers in 1855. It offers bachelor's degrees in 32 programs, including nursing, and was the first school to offer a college nursing program west of the Allegheny Mountains. It hosts 18 honor societies and offers faculty and student research opportunities. With a student body of almost 1,500 that pays no tuition, Berea’s nationally recognized labor program has every student working 10-15 hours a week during school in the college’s offices and programs. Berea College was listed as a “Best Buy” by Forbes Magazine in 2009.

University of Central Florida offers free nursing and teaching degrees to veterans through the Soldiers to Scholars program Soldierstoscholars.org/about.html. Some requirements include a volunteer commitment of 20 hours per month mentoring at-risk-youth in a Soldiers to Scholars-approved program, an honorable discharge from service, verified low-income, and you must complete 24 credit hours per school year. Qualified participants receive subsidized tuition, books, and school supplies for a nursing or teaching degree at the University of Central Florida in Orlando.
